Around 35, 000 people gathered at the National War Memorial Wednesday to honour Canada’s fallen soldiers. There was a 21 gun salute, a flypast of two Canadian Forces CF-18 fighter jets as well as bands from all over the armed forces playing through the streets. Governor General David Johnston, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau, Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan, this year’s Silver Cross Mother, Veterans Affairs Minister Kent Hehr and other dignitaries were all in attendance. After the ceremony the gates were opened so the public could lay poppies on the Tomb of The Unknown soldier. November 11, 2015.
